Nigerian actor, Segun Arinze, has charged youths in the country to engage in politics ahead of the 2023 presidential election.

The movie star spoke in a recent chat with HipTV while reflecting on the situation of things in the country.

Arinze said he believes the youths can do better to improve the country.

He also called on young Nigerians to get involved in active politics, adding that “it’s time to take over.”

“I believe Nigerian youths are very hardworking, talented, beautiful, focused and never mind once in a while you find a few despicable ones but that doesn’t put a blanket on all of them, I believe in Nigerian youths, I believe that they can do better and greater things,” he said.

“For me, it’s time for them to also get active in politics, it’s time to take over, let’s change the baton for a while.”

With his comment, Arinze joins several other celebrities who have tasked Nigerian youths on political participation.

Last year, Banky W, the music star, lamented the mindset of many youths who often criticise the government on social media but stay away from politics because they consider it to be “dirty.”

“There is a disparity in what we say on social media and what we do. How long are we going to abandon politics because we think it is dirty?” he queried.
