A group, Niger Delta Liberation Movement (NDLM) is calling on the Presidency and the Independent Corrupt Practices Commission (ICPC) to suspend and investigate the Chief Operation Officer (COO) Upstream, in the Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC), Mr Adokiye Tombomieye over allegations of abuse of office and economic sabotage of the Niger Delta Region.

In a statement signed by the group’s Executive Director and ex-agitator leader, (Gen) Oghenekaro Tony Edor, Adokiye was accused of “failure to observe the local content law which stipulates that a certain percentage of contracts and benefits be given to indigenous contractors.”

According to the group, Adokiye has “converted the office from public status to a private entity wherein he gives contracts and licenses to cronies in sabotage of procurement proceedings.

They also accused Adokiye of encouraging illegal oil bunkering activities as well as restiveness in the creeks to better his negotiation of taking over affairs of the NNPC.

“Mr. Adokiye Tombomelye has reneged on his promise of ensuring even distribution of social welfare jobs to ex-agitators in the Niger Delta struggle for economic liberation.

“Meanwhile, Mr. Adokiye Tombomeiye and his accomplices have persisted in their corrupt and illegal activities to the point that he now uses monies and proceeds of contracts meant for citizens and Communities in the Niger Delta to sponsor himself, his family and cronies to United States and other European countries for the past few years, and still counting, whereas our Client and the Communities such monies and contracts were meant for are plunged into anguish and nothingness.

“If the nefarious activities of Mr. Adokiye Tombomeiye are not brought to light and nipped in the bud, they will brew a catastrophic uprising in the Niger Delta capable of unsettling the peace and security presently enjoyed in the Niger Delta.

“We as a group are very interested in the peaceful co-existent, security of lives and properties of the people of Nigeria, particularly in the Niger Delta Region.”

The group also commended the Federal government anti-corruption poise and for clamping down and suspending the Accountant General of the Federation, Mr Idris Ahmed for wanton looting of public funds.

They promised a continuous partnership with the government as well as Anticorruption and security agencies.
