Healthy Heart Foundation (HHF) by First Cardiology Consultants Hospital says it has offered free open-heart surgeries to over 50 indigent Nigerians, including male and female patients within the last one year.

The patients who comprised adults and children are aged between 16-73years. This is part of the foundation’s strategy for increased access to prevention and treatment of heart diseases in Nigeria.

The Foundation in a message noted that the hospital has established an interim research and training centre to provide advanced clinical training in areas like critical nursing and cardiovascular care for patients, stressing that this development will bridge the information gap and garner efficient research that will further reduce the disease in the country.

“The Healthy Heart Foundation was created by the First Cardiology Consultants Hospital to increase accessibility to lifesaving therapies and increase awareness in the community on prevention and treatment of heart disease, stating that the focus is to expand access to treatments, create a research centre and set up a learning centre to develop the next generation of caregivers,” the statement read.

While commending its partners and those who have supported them, the Healthy Heart Foundation stated that “we hope to continue to count on you as without your support none of this will be possible. We will be having a fundraising event on the 29th of September 2022 at 6.30pm in commemoration of the annual World Heart Day; please join in on that day through https://youtu.be/PgVzOK2aOjIto support a worthy cause.”

One of the beneficiaries, Adedoyiin Odunayo said: “Words cannot express my gratitude and appreciation to the Healthy Heart Foundation, VOOM Foundation and First Consultant cardiology. Before this time a year ago my life was approaching its wit end having been diagnosed of a heart condition which will require surgical intervention, each new day appears darker and hope seems stolen away.

“Until your foundation appeared on the scene, then the long dark night began to turn into morning. You came to my rescue. The heart surgery was carried out successfully. Today I am a living testimony to the Glory of God. Each day now beacons with hope, peace and Joy. I will eternally be grateful to you,” she stated.

For more than a decade, First Cardiology Consultants Hospital in Ikoyi, Lagos has been providing comprehensive cardiovascular care to patients in Nigeria.
