On Sunday during a live service in his church, Primate Elijah Ayodele made a statement concerning the proposal to redesign Nigeria’s currency and stated that the governor of the Central Bank Of Nigeria (CBN), Godwin Emefiele should be sacked.

Primate Ayodele explained that the redesigning will only lead to total waste of money because it won’t curb insecurity or activities of kidnappers. He described Emefiele as someone who is confused about the job and can’t bring any tangible solution to the economic crisis Nigeria is currently swimming in.

These were the words of the Primate: ‘’CBN Governor, Godwin Emefiele should be sacked, he can’t give a solution to the economy of Nigeria. The country will have more economic hardship and our naira will further be devalued. He doesn’t have the idea of the economy, he is fed up already. We can’t come out of these woes for the next six years.’’

Since Primate Ayodele made this statement, the value of Naira has gone down drastically against other currencies like dollar and pounds. At the moment, Naira exchanges between 850-900 against $1 while pounds is close to N1,000. This is no doubt the worse the Nigerian currency has gone against dollars since inception.

Just as Primate Ayodele said on Sunday that the naira will only continue to be devalued, it seems there is no end in sight to the fall of Naira against other currencies, it’s on a free fall and obviously, the governor of the CBN has no solution to offer exactly as Primate Ayodele said.

The CBN governor has a huge role to play in stabilizing the country’s economy but Godwin Emefiele has failed woefully in carrying out such duties for Nigeria, therefore, should be relieved of his duties.

Primate Ayodele’s call for Emefiele’s sack is pertinent and should be obeyed by President Buhari in order to save Nigeria from these economic woes.
