Media tycoon, Chief Raymond Dokpesi is currently trapped in London till April, 2022 when he will have the opportunity to appear in court.
Chief Raymond Dokpesi who is the founder of Daar Communications Plc the parent company of Nigeria’s foremost independent broadcasting network was reportedly detained by UK Police upon arriving at Terminal 2 Heathrow Airport in London on Sunday.
THE MOMENT reports that Dokpesi’s release was contained in a statement by his Daar Communications Plc moments ago and made available to us.
The company said its founder was released by the UK Police after a minor incident that saw him delayed on arrival at the London Heathrow airport on Sunday January 8, 2022, but failed to point out that he will be trapped in the country till April – his next court hearing.
However, in a new update, Peoples Gazzette reports that a London Police source said Mr. Dokpesi’s arrest relates to an allegation of rape in August 2019.
“On Sunday, January 8, a 71-year-old man was arrested at Heathrow Airport over suspicion of rape. The arrest relates to an allegation of rape in August 2019.
“The man has been bailed, pending further enquiries, to a date in early April.
“Enquiries into the circumstances continue,” the source said.
The development would effectively prevent Mr. Dokpesi from participating actively in Nigeria’s February 25 presidential election in 2023.
Ike Ekweremadu, a prominent PDP member, was also detained in London since his arrest in June 2022 on suspicion of organ trafficking.
As at the time of filing this report, we couldn’t confirm the identity of the complaint in Mr. Dokpesi’s case.
