Ademola Adeleke, Osun governor, has commended President Muhammadu Buhari for ensuring a free and fair governorship election in the state.

Adeleke added that his visit to the state house would also afford him the opportunity to discuss issues of federal assistance with Ibrahim Gambari, chief of staff to the president.

Earlier today, I was received by President Muhammadu Buhari in the State House, Abuja. The President congratulated me and wished me well.

I used the opportunity to thank the President over the electoral act and also raised some issues concerning the progress of Osun State.

On July 16, 2022, Adeleke, who contested the governorship election on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), defeated Gboyega Oyetola of the All Progressives Congress (APC) who was seeking re-election.

He polled 403,371 votes to defeat Oyetola who polled 375,027 votes.

After the announcement of the election, Buhari in a congratulatory message to Adeleke said the result of the poll showed respect for the will of the electorate.

He said the success of the election was an exhibition of stakeholders’ commitment to reinforcing the country’s democratic processes.
