The Star recalls that Oti, on Wednesday, March 22 declared the candidate of the Labour Party (LP), Alex Otti, as the winner of the March 18 gubernatorial election in Abia State.

Otti was the Managing Director of the defunct Diamond Bank (acquired by Access Bank).

Oti declared that the Labour Party candidate polled 175,467 votes to defeat his closest rival, Okey Ahiwe of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) who garnered 88,529 votes.

Enyinnaya Nwafor of the Young Peoples Party (YPP) came third with 28,972 votes.

The FUTO Vice-Chancellor declared Otti as the Governor-elect of Abia State upon the resumption of the final collation of the governorship election results after INEC suspended the exercise over an attack on its office.
