Yul Edochie, the controversial Nigerian actor turned pastor, has been under intense criticism on social media following his prophecy regarding the final of the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

Nigeria and Côte d’Ivoire on Sunday slugged it out in the AFCON final, but the Super Eagles lost by 2-1.

Edochie, who recently unveiled his online church called ‘True Salvation Ministry (TSM)’, had boldly stated that the game would not go into a penalty shootout.

The actor added that the match will end in a comfortable victory for the Super Eagles of Nigeria.

“Today’s game will not reach a penalty shootout. Nigeria will defeat Ivory Coast comfortably,” he wrote.

William Troost-Ekong’s goal was cancelled by two strikes from the opposition. Côte d’Ivoire’s captain Frank Kessie got the leveller while their striker Sebastian Haller secured the goal that won his country the tournament.

Shortly after the game ended, a plethora of Nigerians took to X to mock Edochie over his prophecy. Some users also claimed that he was not called by God.

“Church wey yul Edochie start, fake prophecy don full am,” a user wrote.

“First fake prophecy of the year. You just lost a member,” another user added.

Here is what some Nigerians had to say:
