An agency of Nigeria government, Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC) has dragged Qatar Airways Group before a Lagos Federal High Court, over the company’s failure to honour a summon it.
Joined as the Airways’ co-defendant is one Mr. Kennedy K. Chirchir, the company’s Country Manager, Western Africa.
The FCCPC in charge marked FHC/L/742c/2023, against the Airways and Mr. Kennedy K. Chirchir reads: “That you, Qatar Airways Group QC.S.C and Kennedy K. Chirchir, on December 5, 2023 at 142 Ahmadu Bello Way, 11th Floor Standard Chartered Bank Building, Opposite Silver Bird Galleria, Victoria Island, Lagos, within the jurisdiction of this Honourable Court did without sufficient cause fail and or refuse to appear before the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission in compliance with a lawful Summons to Attend dated December 4, 2023, and the P lance with offence contrary to and punishable under Section 33 (3) P ereby committed an and Consumer Protection Act, 2018. of the Federal Competition.”
When the matter came up on January 30, 2024, Barrister Tam Tamunokonbia, informed the court that the agency is yet to serve one of the defendants in the suit.
The counsel thereafter asked the court for short date to enable the agency to effect service of the charge on the defendant.
Consequently, Justice Chukwujekwu Aneke, adjourned the matter to March 12, for the arraignment of the defendants.
