Solidstar, the ace singer, has claimed his hit song ‘One In A Million’ inspired Psquare, the music duo.
The ‘Omotena’ hitmaker spoke about his road to stardom on the recent Honest Bunch podcast.
‘One In A Million’ was released in 2010. The song featured 2Baba, the music star.
During the interview, Solidstar argued that ‘One In A Million’ introduced a new style of music in Nigeria which he described as a “mid-tempo” Afrobeats sound.
He also claimed the song’s beat inspired Psquare’s ‘Possibility’ track featuring 2Baba in 2011.
The singer said the song “changed the music industry” and won him the ‘Best New Artiste’ category at the Nigeria Music Video Awards.
“Na that ‘One in a Million song really paved way. Na that time dem do the Nigeria Music Video Award. I won the Best New Artiste with ‘One In A Million’. Since then interviews dey come. People dey talk about the song. They even thought I was Ghanaian. My style was different,” he said.
“Na there things changed. Na that song na hin Psquare get that hin own song wey hin feature 2face na ‘Possibility’. That song changed the industry. It just comes with that all-star. Slow am down. Everybody con dey follow that pattern. A whole lot of jamz like that con dey. As I win that award, the jamz just come to stay.
“2face gave the song a very big leverage. If they told me that as I was from Ajegunle me and 2face go hold this song together, I go quarrel with that person. It was like a dream come true for me.”
Born Joshua Iniyezo, Solidstar revealed how he got involved with the use of hard substances.
