Martins Vincent Otse, the social media critic popularly called VeryDarkMan, has regained freedom from police custody in Abuja.

The activist, who was arrested on March 22, was released on March 31.

Last week, VeryDarkman’s legal representative revealed he was arrested and detained based on a petition filed by the actresses Tonto Dikeh and Iyabo Ojo, and singer Samklef.

VeryDarkMan was accused of cyberbullying and cyberstalking.

The lawyer also alleged that the trio petitioned different policing agencies in Abuja who summoned the activist.

The police in Abuja, however, denied reports claiming its officers arrested Otse.

Josephine Adeh, the FCT police spokesperson, said the law enforcement agency was “unaware of VeryDarkMan’s arrest”.

But confirming his release via a post on X, Deji Adeyanju, the human rights lawyer, shared pictures of himself and the social media critic outside a building.

Adeyanju revealed that the legal representatives of VeryDarkMan have been “in a back and forth process” to secure his release for the past five days.

He also appreciated Omoyele Sowore, the former presidential aspirant, and the legal team representing VeryDarkMan.

“After 5 days of back and forth, we have secured VDM’s release. Thank you to everyone that made this happen especially, SOWORE, Kefiano & VDM’s wonderful lawyers,” he wrote.

In January, Dikeh secured the arrest of the social media celebrity over alleged cyberbullying and cyberstalking.

VeryDarkMan was later released from police custody.
