It was like a scene from an action movie some days ago when two top officials of a power company, IBEDC engaged themselves in a fight in the full glare of colleagues and customers.
The quiet serenity of the Challenge Business Hub in Ilorin which houses the Regional Headquarters of IBEDC in Kwara zone was shattered with a fight between the Human Resources Business Partner, Magagi Samuel, and the Branding and Communication Manager, Kola Asaju.
According to an eyewitness, Asaju alongside four other staffers of the company stormed the HR office, alleging the HR manager of blocking him from being promoted in the last promotion exercise.
The HR head, showing surprise by the official breach of conduct tried to pacify the Brand Manager who dealt him a slap, and both engaged in a fisticuff.
A source revealed it became a free- for- all before the security was called in to arrest the situation.
Asaju was said to have threatened that he would make sure the HR Manager didn’t escape further beating while the helpless Magagi was seen sharing his experience with other colleagues.
The scene which lasted for about 10 minutes disrupted the peace of the office complex as customers were seen recording the fracas on their phones.
A customer revealed to this newspaper that they were disappointed and didn’t expect such from a company like IBEDC.
Another eye witness expressed her disappointment with words that ‘I heard the two fighters are senior staffers, honestly I’m highly disappointed and hope the company will do the needful’.Not long ago, the Board of Directors of the Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company relieved the company’s MD Kingsley Achife of his appointment.
The board refused to renew Achife’s contract, naming Francis Agoha as the acting Managing Director of the IBEDC effective from May 31, 2024.
Achife’s sacking was contained in an internal memo dated May 31.
