Embattled former Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mudashiru Obasa, has claimed that Mojisola Meranda, who replaced him, has resigned.

Speaking on Politics Today on Channels TV Thursday evening, Obasa insisted he remains Speaker, despite his removal by colleagues. He stated that at a meeting with Lagos APC leaders in Marina, Meranda openly declared her resignation.

Addressing the withdrawal of Meranda’s security aides while his own were reinstated, Obasa said, “When my security was withdrawn without my consent, did I complain? At the Marina meeting, Meranda herself said she had stepped down. When you resign, the paraphernalia of office is removed.”

Obasa maintains that his removal by 36 of the 40-member House is invalid. “I have never been removed. I am not against removal, but it must follow the rules of the House and the Constitution,” he asserted.

Earlier on Thursday, Obasa arrived at the Assembly under heavy security and presided over a plenary with reportedly only four members present.
