The Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Limited has raised the pump price of petrol to N915 per litre in Lagos and N945 per litre in Abuja.

This adjustment marks a N45 increase from the previous N870 per litre in Lagos, and a N35 hike from the earlier N910 per litre in Abuja.

On Monday, several NNPC filling stations in Lagos reflected the new price. At the NNPC retail outlet at Fin Niger along Badagry Expressway, petrol was sold at N915 per litre. A similar price was recorded at the NNPC station in Igando.

In Abuja, the NNPC station at Federal Housing, Kubwa, sold petrol at N945 per litre, up from N910 per litre.

Other retail outlets have also followed suit with price adjustments. At MRS filling stations—a partner of the Dangote Refinery—petrol now sells for N925 per litre in Lagos, up from N875.

This price surge comes just two days after the Dangote Refinery increased its ex-depot price of petrol to N880 per litre.

TotalEnergies filling stations raised prices from N879 to N910 per litre, while Oluwafemi Arowolo Petroleum in Iba pegged the new price at N920 per litre.

On June 15, the Dangote refinery rolled out nationwide logistics for distributing petrol and diesel, supported by the acquisition of 4,000 compressed natural gas (CNG)-powered tankers to improve fuel delivery nationwide.

In response, the Petroleum Products Retail Outlets Owners Association of Nigeria (PETROAN) expressed concerns, warning that Dangote’s strategy might lead to a “monopoly in disguise” and trigger substantial job losses within the downstream sector.

By June 19, the Major Energies Marketers Association of Nigeria (MEMAN) also sought clarification on the Dangote refinery’s logistics framework for national distribution.

While analysts say the refinery’s move could be a “game-changer” with possible benefits to end-users, they also caution that it may introduce significant disruptions to existing downstream operations.
