Authorities of Buckswood School, Abeokuta, have thanked members of the Association of Nigerian Authors, Ogun State Chapter for organising a Special Reading Session to commemorate the 91st birthday anniversary of the Nobel laureate, Professor Wole Soyinka, which comes up on Sunday, 13th July 2025.
The Vice Principal of the school, Mr. Olusoji Ogunsile described the session as very educative and eye opening adding that “your coming has been very impactful and will re-ignite the reading culture in our students”.
Welcoming attendees earlier, ANA Ogun Chairman, Dr. Chris Omotosho said the Chapter was kick-starting its “Catch Them Young” visits to schools. Starting in Buckswood, he urged the students to take maximum advantage of the visits by authors.
Delivering a keynote address on the topic “The Writer, Writing and Society” in an interactive manner, MSC Okolo, an accomplished writer enjoined students to cultivate reading habits, observe actively, practice regularly and develop critical thinking abilities.
She gave a practical literary appreciation session on one of Wole Soyinka ‘s poem titled ” Telephone Conversation” which the students read and discussed.
All the students present wrote and read out what they learnt during the session and sang Professor Soyinka’s song “I love my country, I no go lie…”
