Police arraign self-acclaimed activist, Scott Iguma, on alleged Cyberbullying

Policemen from the Lagos State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) today, arraigned a self-acclaimed activist, Scott Iguma, on charges of alleged cyberbullying and cyber stalking.

Scott was arraigned before a Federal High Court, presided over b Justice Friday Ogazi on a four count-charge the offence.

The prosecutor, Barrister Augustine Nwabuisi, told the court that defendant committed the alleged offences between May 27 and 28, 2025, at Lekki Gardens, Sangotedo, Lekki, Lagos.

The prosecutor told the court that defendant used his Instagram handle with over one million followers, to write several unverified information against the founder of PWAN, a property outfit, Dr. Augustine Onwumere.

The defendant was also alleged to sent several messages and circulated the Photographs of Dr. Onwumere on all social media platforms, saying that “him that he is a criminal, operating a fraudulent business”.

The prosecutor told the court that the alleged illegal act of the defendant, contravened sections 24 (1)(b) and punishable under section 24 (2)(ii) of the Cybercrimes (Prohibition, Prevention, Etc.) Act (As Amended) 2024.

The defendant denied the allegations and pleaded not guilty to all the four counts charge.

Meanwhile, Justice Ogazi has ordered that the Sekf-acclaimed activist be remanded in the custody of the Nigerian Correctional Services (NCoS), till Monday, May 21, when his bail application shall be heard and determined.

The charges against his read: “That you, Scott Iguma “M”, on or before the 27th day of May 2025, at Lekki Gardens Sangotedo Lagos, within the judicial division of the Federal High Court of Nigeria, did knowingly/intentionally, sent a message by means of a computer system through your instagram followers/viewers Captioned ‘if anything happens to me PWAN should be number 1 suspect, if anything happens to my family, nuclear and extended, hold pwan responsible, even if I fall sick hold PWAN responsible………..”, knowing same to be false, for the purpose of causing a breakdown of law and hatred, posing a threat to life, or causing such messages to be sent.and thereby, committed an offence contrary to section 24 (1) (b) and punishable under section 24 (2) (ii) of the Cybercrimes (Prohibition, Prevention, Etc.) Act (As Amended) 2024.

“That you, Scott Iguma “m”, on or before the 28th day of May 2025, at Lekki Gardens Sangotedo lagos, within the judicial division of the Federal High Court of Nigeria, did knowingly/intentionally sent a message by means of a computer system through your instagram platform with over 1 million followers/viewers captioned “Pwan Real Estate Company, The Company that sells receipt to people instead of land……. I can boldly state and advice, do not buy property from PWAN for now and also stated that PWAN founder is the leader of this thing”, knowing same to be false, for the purpose of causing a breakdown of law and order, hatred, posing a threat to life, or causing such messages to be sent, and thereby, committed an offence contrary to section 24 (1) (b) and punishable under Section 24 (2) (ii) of the of the Cybercrimes (Prohibition, Prevention, ETC.) Act (As Amended) 2024.

“That you, Scott Iguma “M”, on or Before 27th and 28th day of May 2025, at Lekki Gardens’ Sangotedo Lagos division of the Federal High Court Of Nigeria, did Knowingly/ intentionally sent several messages/posted videos OF falsehood by means of a computer system through your instagram platform with over 1 million followers/viewers and posted falsehood against the person of Dr. Augustine Onwumere, with unverified information about his reputation, which have been circulated by other followers on the internet, knowing same to be false, for the purpose of causing a breakdown of law and order, hatred, posing a threat to life, or causing such messages to be sent, and thereby, committed an offence contrary to section 24 (1) (b) and punishable under section 24 (2) (i) of the Cybercrimes and Prevention, Etc.) Act (As Amended) 2024.

“That You, Scott Iguma “M”, on or before the 27th and 28th day of May 2025, at Lekki Gardens Sangotedo Lagos, within the judicial division, of the Federal High Court of Nigeria, did knowingly/intentionally sent several messages, circulated The Photographs Of Dr. Augustine Onwumere On All Social media platforms that he is a criminal and he is operating a fraudulent business, knowing same to be false, for the purpose of causing a breakdown of law and order, hatred, posing a threat to life. OR causing such messages to be sent, and thereby, committed an offence contrary to section 24 (1)(b) and punishable under section 24 (2)(ii) of the cybercrimes (prohibition, prevention, etc.) Act (As Amended) 2024.”
