The Assistant Inspector-General of Police (AIG) incharge of Zone 2 Police Command, Lagos, AIG Adegoke M Fayoade has frowned at the conduct of policemen who arrested a female student Ms Mercy Attababa, in a viral video.
In a statement yesterday Saturday 19/7/25, AIG Fayoade noted that, “Management at the Zone 2 Police Command Headquarters Lagos, has noted the conduct displayed by officers during an arrest depicted in a viral video.”
He noted that; “The arrest in question was initiated following a petition filed against Ms. Mercy Attababa and others by Mr. Emeka Okoye, who alleged them of assault and threat to his life. The petitioner asserted that a group of armed individuals, suspected to be cult members invaded his residence on 13th and 14th July 2025, issuing threats against him and his family, which compelled him to relocate for their safety.
Following an inquiry and the collection of her statement, Ms. Mercy Attababa was released to the Lagos State University Student Union Government Welfare Director.”
The AIG has directed that the case shoukd be transferred to the Commissioner of Police Lagos State, for comprehensive investigation and subsequent reporting.
He assured that, “the officers involved in the incident have been identified, and appropriate actions will be taken against them.
The Command assures members of the public that justice will be transparently served in this matter.”
