Former Borno State Governor, Senator Ali Modu Sheriff, has claimed that Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s presidential candidate in the 2023 general elections, is preparing to return to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) ahead of the 2027 polls.

Obi, who left the PDP in 2022 to secure the Labour Party’s ticket, is currently part of a coalition of opposition figures seeking to unseat President Bola Tinubu in the upcoming presidential election.

The coalition has adopted the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as its political platform.

However, internal tensions within the alliance—sparked by the ambitions of key members such as former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and former Rivers State Governor Rotimi Amaechi—have raised questions about Obi’s continued involvement.

Speaking on Channels TV on Monday, Modu Sheriff asserted that reliable sources suggest Peter Obi’s return to the PDP is imminent.

“As far as this politics is concerned, ADC doesn’t exist. Give the party three months and it will die down,” Sheriff said.

“The information available to me is that at any moment from now Peter Obi will go back to PDP and run as a presidential candidate under PDP,” he added.

The former governor also maintained that, given the existing political structures, the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) would retain power in 2027.
