Cheers of “Up Lagos!” echoed around the venue as the state’s under-15 swimmers showcased exceptional talent and discipline, sweeping gold medals in various categories and solidifying Lagos’s reputation as a powerhouse in youth sports development.

In football, both the boys’ and girls’ teams continued their unbeaten runs with impressive wins over host state Delta.
Rising star Aleem Aminu netted the decisive goal in a tightly contested Group D match, securing a 1–0 victory for the boys’ team and maintaining their perfect record.

The girls’ team delivered a dominant performance, with Kemi Adegbuyi and Emanuella Chukwuemeka each finding the back of the net to seal another crucial win and preserve their 100% record.

Team Lagos also made its mark in gymnastics, securing four medals in the Boys’ Artistic Events — 1 gold, 1 silver, and 2 bronze medals — further boosting the state’s medal tally.

In weightlifting, Lagos continued its impressive showing, clinching 2 silver and 1 bronze medal in the fiercely competitive 55kg category, maintaining its championship pedigree in the sport.

Speaking at the venue, Lekan Fatodu, Director General of the Lagos State Sports Commission, praised the athletes’ performances, attributing the successes to the unwavering support of Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu.

“The impressive results we are seeing here today are the fruits of our Governor’s commitment to youth and sports development,” Fatodu said. “Team Lagos is just getting started — we expect even more victories in the days ahead.”

He added that Lagos remains a symbol of excellence in sports, and the performances in Asaba are a reflection of years of structured investment in grassroots talent development.

“We are proud of our swimmers and all our athletes. They have made Lagos proud and will no doubt represent Nigeria well on even bigger stages,” he said.
