Idimogu, who represented Oshodi-Isolo Constituency II in the Lagos Assembly from 2015 to 2023, made the remarks in a statement marking Nigeria’s 65th Independence Anniversary.

The Deputy Apex Leader of Ndigbo in Lagos APC also used the occasion to urge President Tinubu to grant clemency to detained IPOB leader, Nnamdi Kanu.

Speaking on the President’s Independence Day address, Idimogu agreed with Tinubu that the worst was over for Nigerians, stressing that economic reforms were showing tangible results.

He observed that the naira was gradually appreciating against the dollar, reflecting unseen but effective policies driving stability in Nigeria’s financial system.

“For this to happen steadily, the President’s policies are clearly working. Whatever we do as a country, the exchange rate remains fundamental,” he said.

He added that Tinubu had moved Nigeria from living a “fake life” to a “real life”, urging citizens to support his administration for progress and peace.

On Kanu’s detention, Idimogu appealed to President Tinubu to reconsider the case as a step towards restoring peace and stability in the South East region.

“I plead for amnesty for Kanu. If we negotiate with him, he can work with the President to reduce tension. We need peace,” he said.

He further argued that granting Kanu freedom would expose non-state actors exploiting his name to cause unrest, undermining the South East’s fragile economy.

“We can defeat them. I appeal to the President and all well-meaning Nigerians to help restore Nnamdi Kanu’s freedom,” Idimogu said.
