Tension gripped residents of the Oloje-Ogidi area in Ilorin, Kwara State, on Friday after the body of a female police officer, earlier reported abducted, was discovered lifeless in a bush.
The deceased officer, a Woman Inspector attached to the Ogidi Police Division and serving as a prosecutor, was reportedly kidnapped by unknown assailants on Thursday.
According to credible police sources, her remains were found early Friday in the Oloje area, suggesting she may have been murdered shortly after her abduction.
Although details surrounding her kidnap and death remain unclear, the discovery has caused widespread panic among residents of Oloje and Ogidi, amid growing concerns over rising insecurity in the state.
Community members have expressed fear over the recurring cases of abductions and killings, even as government forces, security agencies, and local vigilantes continue joint operations to flush out criminal elements across Kwara North and South senatorial districts.
In recent months, Kwara State has witnessed a spike in violent crimes, including kidnappings and armed attacks, forcing several residents to flee their communities for safety.
Efforts to reach the Police Public Relations Officer of the Kwara State Command, SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, for confirmation were unsuccessful, as calls and messages sent to her went unanswered at the time of filing this report.
