The Magistrate Court sitting in Kuje, Abuja, has ordered the remand of Nnamdi Kanu’s younger brother, Prince Emmanuel Kanu, and his lead counsel, Aloy Ejimakor, following their arrest during the #FreeNnamdiKanuNow protest in the Federal Capital Territory on Monday.

Kanunta Kanu, another of the IPOB leader’s brothers, condemned the ruling in a post on 𝕏, alleging a wider conspiracy.

“The magistrate sitting in Kuje remanded Barrister Aloy Ejimakor, the lead counsel in Mazi Nnamdi Kanu’s case, and Prince Emmanuel Kanu, his youngest brother. This is a conspiracy from the executive, legislative, and judiciary to frustrate Kanu’s trial on Thursday,” he wrote.

Sources had earlier reported that the Former Chairman of the National Human Rights Commission, Professor Chidi Odinkalu, confirmed the arraignment in a post on his 𝕏 handle, where he criticised the charges.

“After themselves disrupting the lives of most people in Abuja yesterday, @PoliceNG has today secretly arraigned Nnamdi Kanu’s lawyer, @AloyEjimakor, and his brother Kanunta before a Magistrate in Kuje, on the most specious charges. Mr. Ejimakor has even become ‘Aliyu’!” Odinkalu wrote.

Court documents revealed that the duo, alongside 10 others, were arraigned on allegations of inciting disturbance and breaching public peace in violation of a subsisting court order.

The charge sheet alleged that the group disrupted free movement in Abuja by blocking major roads, chanting war songs, and demanding the release of the detained Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) leader, Nnamdi Kanu.

The protest, convened by activist Omoyele Sowore, was staged to demand Kanu’s release from DSS custody.
