The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has pledged to bring more infrastructural development into the FCT health sector.
Dr Adedolapo Fasawe, Mandate Secretary, Health Services and Environment Secretariat (HSES), made the pledge on Tuesday in Abuja at the opening of the 2025 Annual Physicians Week of the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA), FCT chapter.
Fasawe said the level of development being witnessed in the road sector under the leadership of the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, would also be replicated in the health sector.
ThemomentNG reports that the theme of the 2025 NMA-FCT Physicians Week is “Healthcare as a Value Chain: Building Efficiency from Policy to Patient”.
The sub-theme is “AI, Ethics, and the Physician’s Role in Modern Healthcare”.
Fasawe urged doctors to prioritise their health, stressing that they must be in good condition to effectively care for others.
She noted that the sub-theme aligns with ongoing innovations in the FCT health sector, adding that the administration is increasingly adopting technology in policymaking and data collection.
The mandate secretary also urged medical practitioners to maintain the highest ethical standards and uphold the core values of the profession.
She emphasised that confidentiality and accountability would help strengthen the image of the medical field.
Fasawe further advised younger doctors to learn from their senior colleagues, while encouraging interprofessional collaboration.
“The senior doctors can also learn one or two things from nurses they work with,” she added.
Chairman of the occasion, Prof. Saleh Yuguda, represented by Prof. Sani Adamu, a Chemical Pathologist, expressed confidence in the administration of President Bola Tinubu to provide the necessary support for the health sector.
He said the increasing use of technology in hospitals had improved healthcare delivery in the country.
“Now, most of our hospitals have been digitalised, and this has improved efficiency. Information retrieval is faster, and doctors can easily access patients’ medical histories,” he said.
Earlier, NMA-FCT Chairman, Dr Ayogu Emeka, said the association had made remarkable progress in the past year through advocacy, partnerships, and collaborations with professional bodies, NGOs, and entrepreneurs.
He urged the FCT Administration to fulfil the genuine demands of the Association of Resident Doctors (ARD), which suspended its strike in honour of the FCT Minister and following the intervention of the Senate Committee on FCT.
Dr Abdullahi Nasiru, Chairman of the Local Organising Committee (LOC), said the week-long programme, which began on Sunday, Oct. 19, included visits to two orphanages where food items were donated.
He thanked all guests for attending and reaffirmed NMA-FCT’s commitment to improving healthcare services for residents of the territory.
