Super Eagles of Nigeria and Galatasaray striker, Victor Osimhen has been shortlisted for the 2025 CAF Men’s Player of the Year award.
Osimhen, who lifted the award in 2023, will be aiming to reclaim the crown after missing out last year to fellow Nigerian star, Ademola Lookman of Atalanta.
Osimhen is up against some of the continent’s finest talents, including Egypt and Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah, and Morocco and Paris Saint-Germain’s Achraf Hakimi.
Other nominees are: Guinea’s Serhou Guirassy, DR Congo’s Fiston Mayele, Cameroon’s Frank Anguissa, and Gabon’s Dennis Bounaga. Senegal’s Pape Matar Sarr, Ilman Ndiaye, and Algeria’s Ousmanne Lamloui have also been nominated.
The nomination comes after another strong year for Osimhen, who has continued to shine for both club and country. His consistency, work rate, and eye for goal have kept him in the conversation as one of Africa’s most influential forwards.
In 2023, he made history by becoming the first Nigerian to win the CAF Player of the Year title since Nwankwo Kanu in 1999.
Meanwhile, Super Eagles goalie, Stanley Nwabali who currently plays for South African club, Chippa United, will battle South Africa’s Ronwen Williams and Cameroon’s Andre Onana for the Goalkeeper of the Year award.
ThemomentNG reports that Super Falcons stars Rasheedat Ajibade and Esther Okoronkwo have been nominated for the 2025 CAF Women’s Player of the Year award.
Note that the final winners will be unveiled at the CAF Awards ceremony later this year.
