The Senator Nenadi Usman-led faction of the Labour Party has called for the arrest of the Acting Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), May Agbamuche-Mbu, over alleged “criminal collusion” with former LP National Chairman, Julius Abure.

In a statement issued in Abuja on Thursday and signed by the party’s Interim National Spokesman, Toni Akeni, the faction alleged that Agbamuche-Mbu relied on a fabricated court order to recognise Abure during a meeting with leaders of registered political parties.

The statement, titled “INEC’s Acting Chair in Criminal Collusion with Julius Abure Over Fake Court Order, She Must Be Arrested”, described the development as “a brazen assault on democracy.”

According to Akeni, INEC’s acting leadership claimed it was acting in obedience to a court directive but failed to produce any valid document.

He said, “In her defence, she stated that INEC was merely obeying a court order, claiming that if the faction led by Senator Nenadi Usman presented a valid judgment in their favour, the Commission would comply accordingly.

“However, our independent and painstaking investigation has revealed that no such court order exists.”

The faction insisted that although Abure had filed a suit against INEC at the FCT High Court, Gwagwalada (Suit No: CV/1914/2025), its formal request for a Certified True Copy (CTC) of any order purportedly recognising him as chairman was met with categorical confirmation from the court that “no such order was ever granted.”

The Usman-led group maintained that even if such an order existed, it would be nullified by the Supreme Court’s ruling of April 4, 2025, which it said conclusively upheld Senator Nenadi Usman’s leadership of the Labour Party.

“The truth is that INEC’s acting leadership has willfully relied on a fabricated and non-existent order to justify an illegal and politically motivated act,” the statement read.

The faction urged its supporters across the country to prepare for a peaceful demonstration in response to what it termed a subversion of justice.

It also appealed to the incoming INEC Chairman, Professor Joash Amupitan, to address what it described as an “injustice” and to cleanse the electoral body of individuals who collude with politicians.
