Hajiya Huriyya Lawal, wife of the Zamfara State Governor, has reaffirmed her commitment to combating hunger and malnutrition across the state, emphasising the importance of nutrition for community health and development.
Lawal made the pledge in a statement issued by her Senior Special Assistant on Media and Communication, Hajiya Rabi Yusuf, on Thursday in Gusau, the Zamfara State capital.
According to statement, Mrs lawal made the remarks while inaugurating the “Nutrition 774 Programme,” a national initiative designed to improve access to nutritious food across Nigeria’s 774 Local Government Areas (LGAs).
The governor’s wife explained that the programme was introduced to Zamfara through the efforts of the Commissioner for Budget and Economic Planning, Abdulmalik Gajam, in collaboration with the Vice-President’s Office on Food Security.
She said the initiative aligned with the Zamfara State Government’s ongoing commitment to ending malnutrition and ensuring that every citizen, especially women and children, benefited from sustainable nutrition programmes.
She commended Gov. Dauda Lawal for his proactive leadership in supporting the initiative, describing his dedication to eradicating hunger as essential for achieving Zamfara’s long-term development goals.
Mrs Lawal highlighted the governor’s remarks that “we cannot build the Zamfara of our dreams if the challenge of poor nutrition persists,” saying they captured the essence of the government’s broader vision.
Reiterating her support, she pledged to strengthen food distribution and agricultural empowerment programmes targeting women and vulnerable families across the state’s 14 local government areas.
She expressed optimism that through collaboration with relevant partners, Zamfara could achieve lasting improvements in nutrition, food security, and overall community well-being for generations to come.
“God willing, we will continue working hand in hand with our partners to build a healthier, stronger, and more prosperous Zamfara,” the governor’s wife assured.
