A report has indicated that the former governor of Jigawa State, Sule Lamido, was ousted from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chairmanship race due to his age.

Recall that Lamido vowed to drag the party to court after failing to obtain the nomination form for the position of national chairman.

Lamido’s protest followed the party’s adoption of former Minister of Special Duties, Kabiru Tanimu Turaki (SAN), as consensus candidate for the top position at the convention slated for November 15 and 16 in Ibadan, Oyo State.

The former governor had subsequently vowed to press for his rights and challenge the Peoples Democratic Party Governors’ Forum (PDPGF) decision to pre-select a former Minister of Special Duties in President Goodluck Jonathan’s administration as their preferred candidate for the position.

However, speaking to The Guardian, a member of the PDPGF, who spoke on the condition of strict confidentiality, said the governors considered critical factors before arriving at their decision.

He stated: “In the first place, do you know how old Sule Lamido is? By last August, he clocked 77. Leadership is not a function of age, but rather what we do not envisage a situation that could bring back the party’s sour experience under Bamanga Tukur.”
