Olubadan to promote Ibadan Chiefs

The Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rashidi Ladoja, will on Friday elevate six High and Senior Chiefs on the Otun Olubadan line in line with the Ibadan Chieftaincy Law.

The promotions come following vacancies created by the enthronement of Oba Ladoja, who previously held the position of Otun Olubadan before ascending the throne as the 44th Olubadan of Ibadanland.

Vanguard quoted palace sources to have disclosed that the new promotions are part of the traditional succession process designed to maintain the hierarchy and stability of the Ibadan chieftaincy system.

Those listed for promotion include Oba Eddy Oyewole, Oba Kola Daisi, Oba Hamidu Ajibade, Oba Adebayo Akande, Senior Chief Lekan Alabi, and Senior Chief Kola Babalola.

Under the new arrangement, the traditional council approved the following advancements:

  1. Oba Eddy Oyewole moves from Osi Olubadan to Otun Olubadan;
  2. Oba Hamidu Ajibade rises from Ekerin Olubadan to Asipa Olubadan;
  3. Oba Adebayo Akande advances from Ekaarun Olubadan to Ekerin Olubadan;
  4. Senior Chief Lekan Alabi will be elevated from Maye Olubadan to Abese Olubadan;
  5. Senior Chief Kola Babalola will move from Abese Olubadan to Ekaarun Olubadan.

ThemomentNG reports that the promotion ceremony is scheduled to take place at the newly completed Olubadan Palace in Oke-Aremo, located in the Ibadan North Local Government Area.

“This will be the first traditional ceremony to be conducted by Oba Ladoja since his coronation on September 26, 2025,” a source from the palace said.

The planned elevations are seen as a continuation of Ibadan’s long-standing rotational system, which ensures smooth transitions within the Olubadan-in-Council.

The upcoming ceremony, expected to attract prominent sons and daughters of Ibadan, is also the first major traditional event to be hosted by Oba Ladoja since his enthronement, symbolising continuity and renewal in the ancient city’s revered monarchy.
