The Chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on House Services, Daniel Amos, has formally defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
Amos, who represents Jema’a/Sanga Federal Constituency of Kaduna State, announced his defection during a rally held at the Kafanchan Township Stadium on Wednesday, where he was received by Senator Marshall Katung, representing Kaduna South Senatorial District.
In a letter read during plenary by Speaker Abbas Tajudeen, the lawmaker said his decision followed “unresolved contradictions” within the PDP at the national level, which he claimed had weakened the party’s ability to function effectively.
“My decision to leave the PDP was not taken lightly. It was a hard decision, especially considering that the party gave me the mandate to represent my people after years of dedicated service,” Amos said.
He lamented that the PDP had lost focus and become “weighed down by its own internal antics,” a development he described as making the opposition party increasingly unattractive.
Amos explained that after wide consultations with his constituents, he decided to join the APC to align with the policies and programmes of President Bola Tinubu’s administration.
According to him, the move was also motivated by the desire to support the developmental efforts of Kaduna State Governor, Uba Sani, particularly in the areas of peacebuilding and economic growth.
