The Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) has released graphic images of the late Brigadier General Musa Uba, who was killed during an ambush in Borno State on November 18.

The pictures appeared in Issue 522 of Al-Naba, the group’s Arabic-language propaganda newspaper, published on Thursday.

Sources recalls that Uba, a senior military officer, was killed alongside soldiers and Civilian Joint Task Force operatives after ISWAP fighters ambushed their convoy along Damboa Road, Wajiroko, last Friday.

The troops were reportedly transporting military equipment when they came under heavy fire.

According to materials seen by FIJ, ISWAP displayed censored photos of the brigadier general’s corpse on the front page of Al-Naba, showing a visible bullet wound on his leg and blood near his head.

The publication also circulated screenshots of Uba’s WhatsApp conversations, in what analysts describe as an attempt to bolster its propaganda and demoralise security forces.

The eight-page edition highlighted recent violent operations by ISWAP and other Islamic State affiliates across the globe.

ISWAP further claimed responsibility for an attack on the Damboa Brigade Headquarters on Tuesday, adding that it carried out another gruesome incident involving a beheading in Gorobatcha, Borno State.

The propaganda release is the latest in the terror group’s efforts to publicise its activities and intimidate communities across the North-East amid renewed insurgent violence.
