The All Progressives Congress (APC) has urged former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar to stop what it calls  “persistent political restlessness,” saying the 2027 presidency is not for him.

The APC spokesman in Lagos State, Mr Seye Oladejo, made this remark in a statement on Tuesday in reaction to Abubakar’s reported registration as a member of the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

Oladejo said Abubakar’s decision to join yet another political party at the age of 80 underscores “a pattern of unending political migration” which, he said, had become “a needless distraction to the national political space.”

He said Nigerians had repeatedly rejected the former vice-president at the polls, adding that “no fresh mandate awaits him in 2027″.

“Former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar must realise that the 2027 presidency is not calling his name.

“What the nation expects from him at this stage is reflection, not another cycle of party-hopping.”Oladejo said.

The spokesman argued that Abubakar’s long history of shifting political platforms had contributed to internal instability within political parties.

He suggested that the former vice-president should go on  retirement and allow national politics to move forward.

The spokesman added that the country was under what he described as focused and responsible leadership, and urged Atiku to discontinue “political excursions that lead only to confusion”.

ThemomentNG reports that Atiku, who has contested several presidential elections, has not formally declared interest in the 2027 race.

However, his move to the ADC has fuelled fresh speculation about his intention to contest.
