Former Governor of Jigawa State Sule Lamido has urged his supporters to grant the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) the next ten days to resolve its internal crisis and chart a path forward.

A founding member of the party, Lamido made the appeal on Thursday while receiving a delegation of his supporters—including Jigawa State PDP officials and members of the Jigawa State Former PDP Local Council Forum—during a solidarity visit in Kano.

Expressing concern over the ongoing crisis within the PDP, Lamido voiced optimism that the dispute was not irreconcilable and called on his supporters to exercise restraint for the next ten days to allow for reconciliation efforts.

He also called for the nullification of the outcomes of the Ibadan PDP convention and advocated the formation of a caretaker committee to oversee party affairs until the next elective primaries.

“I am pushing for a caretaker committee. I am asking Wike, Damagun and others to please sit down and forgive one another and support the formation of a unified caretaker committee.”

Lamido explained that part of the party’s challenges stemmed from outsiders displacing original members and highlighted that he proceeded to court not only to assert his right to contest party leadership but to uphold the PDP’s legacy as a law-abiding institution.

Earlier, the forum leader, Alhassan Babandi, condemned the PDP leadership’s mistreatment of Lamido, particularly regarding his exclusion from contesting for the position of National Chairman.

The group also urged Lamido to consider seeking an alternative political platform to pursue their aspirations for a greater Jigawa State and a better Nigeria.

They lamented that the PDP, in its current form and conduct, was no longer a formidable force in Nigerian politics, citing internal divisions and persistent rancour within the party.
