The Labour Party (LP) has announced new appointments and reaffirmed the legitimacy of national officials elected during its 2024 national convention in Nnewi, Anambra State.

The decisions were contained in a resolution adopted at the National Executive Council (NEC) meeting held at the party’s national secretariat in Abuja on Friday, November 28, 2025.

While reviewing the controversies that followed the 2024 convention — alongside INEC’s position, multiple court cases, and the Supreme Court’s final judgement on the matter — the NEC restated that issues relating to party leadership remain an internal affair and are not subject to judicial intervention.

The resolution referenced key Supreme Court pronouncements affirming that political parties, as corporate entities with their own constitutions and rules, must resolve leadership and internal disputes through the mechanisms provided within their structures.

The court held that members, having joined voluntarily, are bound by the party’s constitution and internal decision-making processes.

Relying on these judicial positions, the NEC reaffirmed the officers elected at the March 27, 2024, national convention.

Those upheld include Julius Abure (National Chairman), Clement Ojukwu, Dr Ayo Olorunfemi, and Esther Gulmu (Deputy National Chairmen), while those affirmed as National Vice Chairmen are Ibrahim Idoko (North Central), Ceekay Igarra (South East), and Anthony Ezeagwu (South South).

Others include Umar Ibrahim (National Secretary), Rotimi Adekunle (Deputy National Secretary), Innocent Okeke (Deputy National Secretary), Ngozi Doga (National Treasurer), Dayo Ekong (National Financial Secretary), Obiora Ifoh (National Publicity Secretary), Yahuza Ahmed (National Organizing Secretary), Kehinde Edun (National Legal Adviser), Dudu Manuga (National Women Leader), and Kennedy Ahanotu (National Youth Leader)

The NEC also filled vacant positions in the NWC with the appointment of Oluwafemi Arabambi (National Vice Chairman -South West), Favour Reuben (Assistant National Organising Secretary), and Enu Kikawa (Assistant National Women Leader -South South).

The NEC also directed the national chairman and national secretary to convene a special convention when necessary and ratified the plan to conduct ward, local government, and state congresses across the country.
