Adebayo Adedamola, an aspirant of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has emerged as the party’s candidate for the Osun 2026 governorship election.

Adedamola polled 919 votes out of the 957 cast in the party’s primary conducted on Tuesday in Osogbo.

The PDP electoral chairman, Humphrey Abba, while announcing the result, said that 957 delegates out of 990 were accredited for the exercise.

Abba, however, said that 20 votes were voided.

“We told you earlier that one of the aspirants withdrew.

“The candidate who received the remaining votes is Adebayo Adedamola with 919 votes and is declared elected and returned”, he said.

The name of Gov. Ademola Adeleke, however, appeared on the ballot paper despite his earlier resignation from the party.

Representatives of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and a committee led by Abba from the PDP national headquarters were present at the venue.

There was also a heavy security presence, with operatives from the Department of State Security, the police, and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps stationed at the entrance and exit of the venue for the exercise.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the chairman of the PDP in the state, Sunday Bisi, while addressing a news conference earlier on Monday in Osogbo, said that the ongoing crisis in the party at the national level had made it impossible to conduct the governorship primary as earlier scheduled for Dec. 2.

Bisi added that, due to the crisis, Adeleke may no longer be interested in seeking the party’s nomination for the 2026 governorship election.

ThemomentNG also reports that Adeleke, in the early hours of Tuesday, announced his resignation from the PDP, citing persistent leadership turmoil at the party’s national level as the reason.

Adeleke made this known in a letter dated Nov. 4 addressed to the chairman of the party in Sagba Abogunde, Ward 2, Ede North Local Government Area of the state.
