The National Single Window (NSW) Project, scheduled for launch in the first quarter (Q1) of 2026, is poised to transform Nigeria’s import and export procedures. Recognizing this major shift, the Maritime Correspondents’ Organisation of Nigeria (MARCON) emphasised that journalists must be adequately equipped to support and champion the project.

The President of MARCON, Ismail Aniemu, made the disclosure on Thursday at a two day retreat put together by MARCON at the Lagos Free Trade Zone, Lekki Lagos.

Building on the theme, “Maximising Emerging Technologies for Sustainable Import and Export Trade,” Aniemu said the retreat aimed to empower journalists with insights to effectively support key government initiatives.

He stated; “A major highlight is the National Single Window Project, set to launch in Q1 2026, which will revolutionise import and export processes, manufacturing, revenue collection, and logistics nationwide.”

Aniemu emphasised the strategic role Nigeria plays as a central hub for West and Central Africa, noting that the nation’s economic growth has significant regional impact.

He highlighted the maritime sector’s contribution to employment, access and exit systems, and national productivity, stressing that inefficiencies such as prolonged vessel turnaround time slow economic progress and weaken competitiveness.

According to him, while Nigeria is making steady progress, more work is required to meet the nation’s development goals. The retreat, therefore, aims to deepen journalists’ understanding of the sector, enhance their capacity to provide better public enlightenment, and broaden their perspective on emerging technologies shaping global trade.

The event Aniemu said has attracted key industry stakeholders dedicated to shaping Nigeria’s maritime future. Given, participants have been attending lectures on tech adoption, policy development, and sector-wide modernisation since yesterday.

He reaffirmed MARCON’s pledge to drive impactful maritime journalism that supports Nigeria’s economic goals.
