The Akwa Ibom State University (AKSU) has accused a lecturer, Dr. Eyo Etim of the Department of English, of mutilating students’ results while serving as Examination Officer, dismissing his recent allegations of victimization and unpaid salaries as false.

In a statement signed by the Acting Vice-Chancellor, Professor Otoabasi E. Akpan, the university said claims made by Dr. Etim in a viral video ranging from denial of promotion to tribalism and 14 months’ unpaid salaries, were “false, misleading, and mere figments of his imagination.”
According to the statement, Dr. Etim was not promoted because he committed infractions that violated university regulations, international best practices, and the culture of the academic system.
The university noted that the lecturer, though acknowledged as brilliant, “mutilated results in his capacity as Examination Officer… an offence considered gross misconduct under the university’s Conditions of Service.”
A committee was set up to investigate the allegation. However, during the process, Dr. Etim tendered his resignation, which the university said was not processed because the panel had not completed its work.
AKSU stressed that the lecturer remains innocent until proven guilty but cannot be promoted while the matter, which carries serious moral implications, is still before the Governing Council.
The university also denied his claim of being owed 14 months’ salaries, stating that he is not owed any salary or allowance.
On allegations of tribalism and oppression, AKSU maintained that the institution operates a committee-driven system guided by multicultural principles and devoid of bias relating to tribe, gender, or religion.
Professor Akpan reaffirmed that all staff due for promotion in 2025 had already received their letters after successful appraisals and approvals by the Central Appointments and Promotions Committee.
