Imo State Chapter of Labour Party, LP, has elected a new executive that will steer the affairs of the party in preparation for the next general elections.

The new leadership was elected after the party concluded its Ward and LGA congresses.

Emergence of the new leadership was through a consensus which saw the re-election of Callistus Ihejiagwa as the State Chairman.

Addressing party faithful during the Congress, the National Vice Chairman of the party, Southeast zone, Chidi Igala, who represented the National Chairman of the party, charged the new leadership on transparency.

He said that the party is now very careful in selecting its leadership because of the experience it had in the 2023 election.

Igala hinted that the Labour party was faced with a series of internal crises immediately after the election but was able to dismantle them, adding that the party will never allow such scenario repeat itself.

“This exercise today will usher in new leadership that will steer the affairs of the party in the State, mostly now that the next electoral exercise is around the corner.

“Our next electoral outing will be more victorious compared to the 2023 election,” he said.

Igala advised the new leadership to carry everyone along in their schemes of things to encourage effective participation.

In his speech, the newly elected Chairman, on behalf of his exco members, pledged total adherence to the authority of the party.

He said that the Labour Party is a mass movement armed with the sole intention of providing credible leadership which the State and Nigeria at large are yearning for.

Ihejiagwa added that his leadership will be anchored on the party’s anthem to save the Nation from bad leadership.

“We are fully committed to take the Labour Party to another level by ensuring it democratically takes over leadership at the State and National level.

“APC has failed the people, Nigeria is yearning for an alternative government which the Labour Party is willing to offer,” he said.

The exercise, which took place at the party’s office in Owerri, was witnessed by officials of Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, and members of the party across the 27 LGAs of the State.
