Cher is reportedly preparing to marry her boyfriend, Alexander “AE” Edwards, ahead of her 80th birthday in May, nearly five decades after the end of her second marriage. An insider told the Mirror that Cher “doesn’t care about their 40-year age difference” and sees the milestone birthday as the perfect moment to commit to Edwards. However, Cher’s representative told Page Six that the report is “not true.”
The singer previously dismissed criticism about the age gap during a November appearance on CBS Mornings, telling Gayle King, “Whatever… they’re not living my life. Nobody knows what goes on between us, but we just have a blast.” She added that Edwards also views the age difference as irrelevant, saying, “You know, you get older, but your spirit is younger.”
Cher gushed about their three-year romance, saying they “laugh all the time” and calling Edwards “beautiful” and “one of the most talented persons I’ve ever met.” The couple was first linked romantically in November 2022 in Los Angeles and quickly went public on social media, with Cher emphatically stating via X that she doesn’t care what critics think, adding, “H@ters are gonna h@te… Doesn’t matter that we’re happy & not bothering anyone.”
The pair made their red carpet debut at the Versace Fall 2023 fashion show in March, showing off a PDA-filled entrance. Prior to dating Edwards, Cher was married to Sonny Bono (1964–1975) and Gregg Allman (1975–1979) and has famously been linked to Val Kilmer, Gene Simmons, and Tom Cruise.
