Chairman of the Osun State Gubernatorial Congress Delegate Committee of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Shehu Umaru Dange, has disclosed that 1,660 delegates would participate in the party’s upcoming governorship primary election.

Speaking at the APC secretariat in Osogbo, Dange revealed that five delegates were elected from each of the 332 wards in the state.

He expressed gratitude to all those involved in the delegate election and acknowledged the leadership of the National Working Committee for entrusting them with the responsibility. “By the grace of God, we successfully conducted these elections without any issues.”

He also thanked the Osun APC chapter, which facilitated a peaceful exercise and urged party members across the state to continue supporting President Bola Tinubu’s renewed hope agenda.

“We should ensure unity and harmony beyond the primaries. This will enable us to support the President in his renewed hope agenda, striving for a better Nigeria, a stable democracy and a strong party; the greatest party in Africa, which is the APC,” Dange said.

Meanwhile, one of the aspirants, Omooba Dotun Babayemi, has pledged to support the party’s decision regarding its candidate for the upcoming 2026 governorship election.

Babayemi, along with six other aspirants, was disqualified from contesting in the primary election but had previously expressed intentions to seek redress.

In a statement yesterday, he underscored his commitment to the party’s supremacy, which he emphasised during visits to political wards.

“The Osun State Chapter of our party, the All Progressives Congress (APC), has been in the news lately for issues surrounding the selection of our governorship candidate for the 2026 election,” he stated.

He highlighted his extensive outreach, having visited 299 out of 332 wards in the state, where he promoted President Tinubu’s renewed hope message, saying, “I made it clear at every location that the party remains supreme and that I will abide by its decision on who represents us in 2026.

He acknowledged the party leadership’s efforts at both the national and state levels to resolve ongoing issues. “Under the wise guidance of our leader, President Bola Tinubu, the leadership has been working diligently to reach a workable resolution that will unify our party and enable us to regain power in Osun in 2026,” he said.

He reiterated his commitment to the principles of the progressives and emphasised that the goal of delivering good governance to the people of Osun outweighs individual aspirations.

“I am prepared to abide by the party’s resolutions concerning the 2026 governorship election, believing that the actualisation of our shared goals of delivering good governance to our people supersedes any individual desires,” he said.
