Borno State Governor Babagana Zulum has expressed confidence in the victory of President Bola Tinubu and the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 general elections.

Zulum expressed this confidence on Saturday shortly after he cast his vote in his hometown, Mafa, for the local government election.

He said his party, the APC, will retain the presidential seat and win almost all the governorship and legislative seats in the majority of the states.

“It is expected that this local government election will end well. It is a litmus test for the forthcoming 2027 election. By the grace of God, APC will win from the president down to the bottom in all the stats,” the governor told journalists at his Ajari 1 Polling Unit, Mafa Central Ward, in Mafa, Borno Central town.

He said the LGA poll started peacefully across the state. He assured that government will continue to provide a level playing field.

Also, the senator representing Borno Central in the National Assembly, Senator Kaka Shehu Lawan, said the council poll was the third in the state in nearly a decade. He said this attests to the commitment of the Borno government to sustaining democracy.

“This is the third in the cycle and this show the commitment of the government of Borno to the growth of democracy. It shows there is good governance in the state because you cant conduct election when there is no good governance and commitment to do so,” he disclosed in an interview with journalists at his Lawan Asheik Alhaji Sadiq Polling Unit in Maiduguri where he voted.

Election did not start early in some polling units in Maiduguri, the state capital, as many residents did not turn up on time. Some, however, started as early as 8 a.m.

At Maidokiri 2 Polling Unit in Masandari ward, Maiduguri, about 50 voters out of 750 registered voters had been accredited and voted at about 10:30 a.m., according to electoral officers.

Some residents, however, flayed the lack of stiffer opposition from other political parties to challenge the ruling APC at the council poll.
