Politics in Cross River State is gradually becoming embarrassing, and the Governor needs to urgently know what is truly happening at the grassroots.
The Chairman of Bekwarra Local Government Area, Hon. Theresa Ushie , has made a shocking revelation. According to her, and I quote, the Secretary of the Council repeatedly called her to resign, claiming that the Speaker of the Cross River State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Elvert Ayambem, instructed him to do so.
This raises a serious question: what personal or political interest does the Speaker have that warrants calling on a duly elected local government chairman to resign?
As if that was not enough, her signature was allegedly forged, and a fake resignation letter was written and circulated online claiming that Hon. Theresa Ushie had resigned. This is a criminal offence, and it is very unfortunate.
While the Governor is doing his best to move Cross River State forward, some individuals—hiding under the name of cabals are deliberately working to destabilize his administration by forcing local government chairmen into impeachment or resignation. This act is unacceptable and a direct threat to democracy in Cross River State.
The Speaker of the Cross River State House of Assembly, who is number three in the state, should be focused on promoting peace and stability across all local governments as the head of the legislature, not calling for the resignation of elected officials. This action is totally wrong and shocking.
Once again, the Governor must be properly informed with the true picture of what is happening in the state. Those feeding him with false information should stop immediately, or the people will be left with no option but to seek other ways to make their voices heard.
