The Coalition of Social Media Activists and Advocates for Good Governance and Accountability has condemned President Bola Tinubu’s 2026 Budget, describing it as full of grand statements, unfulfilled promises, and questionable priorities.

While the speech highlights economic growth and stability, millions of Nigerians continue to face rising food, fuel, and energy costs. The claimed 3.98% GDP growth and reduced inflation, the Coalition says, have not translated into relief for ordinary families.

Budget execution remains weak. Only 61% of the 2025 revenue target was met, and just 17.7% of the capital budget was executed by the third quarter. Yet the government labels these as minor “transition challenges.”

The 2026 Budget’s deficit of 23.85 trillion naira and debt servicing of 15.52 trillion naira signal fiscal irresponsibility, while billions spent on security have failed to curb kidnappings and violent crime. Promises on education, healthcare, and agriculture, the Coalition warns, are ambitious but unrealistic.

The Coalition urges the National Assembly to exercise strict oversight, ensure accountability, and translate allocations into real improvements for citizens.

We cannot celebrate numbers on paper while Nigerians suffer in reality,” the Coalition stated.
