An All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftain, Abdulhakeem Adegoke Alawuje, has declared that Nigeria currently lacks a credible opposition, insisting that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu should be supported to remain in office until 2031.

Alawuje made this assertion in a strongly worded statement titled “Speaking the Bitter Truth: A Call for National Honesty and Responsibility,” where he urged Nigerians to confront the country’s political realities with honesty and courage.

According to him, remaining silent in the face of truth is dangerous, stressing that truth, though bitter, must be spoken, adding that religious teachings command believers to stand by the truth regardless of consequences, with the assurance of divine protection.

The APC chieftain argued that if President Tinubu were not capable of delivering good governance, those he described as “destroyers of Nigeria’s past” would not perform any better.

He maintained that, by the grace of God, the current administration is succeeding and will continue to succeed.

Alawuje questioned the moral credibility of several opposition figures, accusing some former political leaders of selling national assets, enriching themselves while in power, and mortgaging Nigeria’s future.

He said such individuals now present themselves as national saviours despite their poor records.

He also challenged Nigerians to think independently and verify claims made by political actors, lamenting what he described as blind followership fueled by ethnic, religious, and partisan sentiments.

Commenting on corruption cases, Alawuje criticized public reactions to arrests by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), noting that many Nigerians are quick to accuse the government of witch-hunting instead of demanding accountability from those accused of looting public funds.

The APC chieftain further questioned the credibility of emerging political coalitions, asking Nigerians to name any former political office holder who deserves celebration based on past achievements in office.

According to him, many politicians who once held immense power failed to use it for the benefit of Nigerians and are now seeking a return to office by spreading falsehoods and sabotaging the efforts of the present administration.

He lamented what he described as the degeneration of Nigeria’s political culture, where the struggle for power has overtaken concerns for public welfare, national unity, and moral responsibility.

Alawuje called on Nigerians to wake up, embrace the truth, and prioritize the country’s collective future. He also prayed for President Tinubu, asking God to guide and strengthen him in leading Nigeria on the right path.
