Obi officially joined the opposition coalition party today at an event currently holding at the Nike Lake Resort, Enugu.
The defection ceremony is being attended by several national leaders and prominent figures within the ADC and allied political blocs. Notable personalities present include former Senate President David Mark; former governors Achike Udenwa and Sam Egwu; ex-national chairman of the PDP, Okwesilieze Nwodo; Aminu Tambuwal.
Others are: Senators Victor Umeh, Enyinnaya Abaribe and Ben Obi; Emeka Ihedioha; Tony Nwoye; Gilbert Nnaji; Onyema Ugochukwu; Hon. Idu Emeka; Hon. Sheumi; rights activist Aisha Yesufu; Prof. Pat Utomi, and Chief Mrs Josephine Anini, among others.
Speaking at the event, the former Anambra State governor said his defection ahead of the 2027 general elections was driven by the need to rescue and transform Nigeria.
“We are ending this year with the hope that in 2026, we will begin a rescue journey,” Obi declared.
He further vowed that the coalition would resist any form of electoral malpractice in the 2027 polls.
“We will resist election rigging by every lawful means in 2027,” he said.
