The Adamawa State Government has announced the cancellation of the December 31 Cross Over Night activities earlier scheduled to hold at the Unity Flyover in Jimeta, Yola, the state capital.

Themomentng reports that the cancellation was disclosed in a statement issued on Wednesday by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Humwashi Wonosikou, and made available to journalists.

According to the statement, the decision was taken in the interest of public safety and security, stressing that the protection of lives and property remained the government’s highest priority.

“The Adamawa State Government has cancelled all activities planned for the Cross Over Night on Dec. 31, 2025, to Jan. 1, 2026, at the Unity Fly-Over in Jimeta, Yola,” the statement read.

Wonosikou added that the government would continue to work closely with security agencies to ensure peace and stability across the state.

“The safety and security of citizens remain our top priority. The government will continue to work with security agencies to ensure peace and stability in the state,” he said.

The government also noted that residents would be duly informed should there be any further developments.

As part of precautionary measures, the state government advised residents, particularly those in Yola North and Yola South Local Government Areas, to remain vigilant and avoid crowded places.

“Citizens are urged to avoid any potential risks and report any suspicious activities to the appropriate authorities,” the statement added.

The development comes just a day after the Lagos State Government announced the cancellation of the 2025 Greater Lagos Fiesta, which was scheduled to hold on December 31.

The announcement was made in a statement issued on Tuesday by the Governor’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Gboyega Akosile, following the approval of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu.

According to the statement, Sanwo-Olu directed that, in place of the annual celebration—popularly known as the Countdown to 2026—residents should spend the period in personal prayers.

“In place of the Greater Lagos Fiesta, Mr Governor has urged Lagosians to spend quality time in personal prayers for the nation, the state and the people of Lagos,” the statement said.

The governor further encouraged residents to pray for “continued prosperity, leadership, peace, productivity and general well-being,” while expressing optimism about the coming year.

While wishing residents well as the year draws to a close, Sanwo-Olu described 2026 as a year that “shows great promise for Lagos State and Nigeria,” and wished all Lagosians “a happy and prosperous year 2026.”

The statement also noted that the governor enjoined residents “to continue to live in peace and harmony.”
