Gombe State Government has approved ₦661,557,121 to pay Senior Secondary Certificate Examination (SSCE) fees for 23,873 students across the state.

The decision was announced after the 51st State Executive Council meeting chaired by Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya.

According to the Commissioner for Education, Dr. Aishatu Maigari, the students qualified for the support after scoring 50% and above in a recent mock examination.

Out of the total beneficiaries, 21,909 will sit for WAEC, 1,431 for NABTEB, and 297 for NBAIS exams.

The scheme also includes 183 non-indigene students on exchange programmes and 53 students living with special needs, reflecting the government’s inclusive approach.

Dr. Maigari explained that the cost will be shared between the state government and the 11 local governments on a 60–40 basis.

She said the intervention is part of Governor Yahaya’s strategy to remove financial obstacles to education, boost academic performance and position Gombe as a leading centre of learning in the North-East.
