The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), in collaboration with the Kano State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), has distributed relief items to 2,088 households affected by the 2025 rainstorm disaster in Gwale Local Government Area.
The distribution exercise, held in Gwale, was facilitated by officials of NEMA, SEMA, and other stakeholders to cushion the impact of the disaster on affected households, the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports.
Speaking at the event, the NEMA Head of Operations in Kano, Dr Nura Abdullahi, said the intervention was part of the Federal Government’s efforts to provide succour to disaster victims in the state.
Abdullahi, represented by the Assistant Chief Accountant, Mr Rilwanu Sumaila, sympathised with the victims over their losses and urged them to remain hopeful amid the challenges caused by the rainstorm.
He said the relief items included food and non-food materials such as 300 bags of 25kg rice, 300 bags of 25kg maize, 300 cartons of spaghetti, 30 cartons of seasoning, 30 kegs of vegetable oil, and 30 cartons of tomato paste.
Other items distributed were 30 bags of iodised salt, 300 pieces of wax prints, 300 pieces of guinea brocade, 200 women’s clothes, and 100 children’s wears, aimed at meeting both nutritional and household needs.
Abdullahi advised beneficiaries to make judicious use of the items and reaffirmed NEMA’s commitment to supporting vulnerable communities affected by natural disasters across the state.
He also urged residents to embrace disaster risk management practices to enhance community resilience, stressing that preventive measures were critical to reducing the impact of future disasters.
The House of Representatives member representing Gwale Federal Constituency, Rep. Garba Ibrahim-Mohammed, commended NEMA for the timely intervention and support to the affected households during a challenging period.
Represented by Mr Musbahu Abdullahi-Shado, Senior Special Assistant to Gov. Abba Kabir-Yusuf on Sabon Gari Market, the official also lauded the Federal Government for standing by the affected communities.
Speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, Sani Muhammad expressed gratitude to NEMA and the Federal Government for the timely support, saying it had eased their burden and restored hope after the disaster.
