A designer in Mushin, Lagos State, named, David Balogun, a was checking his Access More app in December for his existing loan details when he discovered that an additional loan of N97,866 had been opened on his account.

Balogun told FIJ that he had installed the Access More app on his new phone on December 22 to check how much he still needed to pay Access Bank. But he noticed a new loan section indicating that he had taken another loan.

“But I did not take any new loan. I still owe them N197,000, which is now long overdue. I am trying to repay it, but I can now see another loan that I did not take,” Balogun told FIJ.

Balogun said he could not tell whether the bank was responsible or whether it was a system glitch, but he wants the loan cleared from his account.

“How was I even eligible for the loan when I was supposed to have repaid them since August 2025? I was confused because I hadn’t had the app on my phone for over three months after I got a new one,” he said.

“I only logged in again on December 22, but the loan was taken on November 28 using my account. So, it definitely seems like it came from the bank, but I don’t know how.”

FIJ emailed Access Bank for comments on Friday, but a representative asked our reporter to tell the source to send an email, which he has since done.

At press time, Access Bank had not responded to Balogun’s email. The bank customer copied FIJ in the email.
