The marriage was held at the residence of her late father, Yusuf Bala Usman, in a quiet setting attended by close family members and a few associates.

Bala-Usman is 50 years old and is known for keeping her personal life away from public attention, despite holding key positions in government over the years.

She was previously married to Tanimu Yakubu Kurfi, an economist and former Chief Economic Adviser to late President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua.

The marriage produced two children.

She was born on January 2, 1976, into the family of the late Professor Yusuf Bala Usman, a respected historian and academic.

She studied business administration at Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, before obtaining a master’s degree in development studies from the University of Leeds in the United Kingdom.

Before joining the federal government, she worked in civil society and public sector reform.

She later became Chief of Staff to former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, where she played a key role in governance and policy planning.

In 2016, she was appointed Managing Director of the Nigerian Ports Authority, becoming the first woman to hold the position.

She served until 2021.

In 2023, President Bola Tinubu appointed her as Special Adviser on Policy Coordination.
