The Federal Government has earmarked a total of ₦7.01 billion for the travel expenses of President Bola Tinubu and Vice-President Kashim Shettima in the proposed 2026 appropriation bill.

According to the 2026 budget proposal, ₦6.14 billion has been allocated to President Tinubu’s international travel, while ₦873.88 million has been allocated to his domestic travel. This brings his total travel budget for the year to ₦7.01 billion.

For the Vice President, Kashim Shettima, the proposed bill allocates ₦1.73 billion for travel and transport. This includes ₦417.48 million for local travel and ₦1.31 billion for international trips.

In a move aimed at reducing government spending, President Tinubu had slashed the number of officials accompanying him on both local and international trips by 60 per cent in 2024. Despite this reduction, the total travel expenditure for the president and his vice in the 2024 fiscal year was planned to be a combined ₦8 billion for both local and international travels.

Sources understands that the 2026 federal budget, which amounts to ₦58.18 trillion, was presented to the National Assembly by President Tinubu on December 19, 2025.

This budget, which had already been approved by the Federal Executive Council (FEC), outlines the government’s spending priorities for the coming year, including allocations for official travel.

The travel allocations for both the president and vice-president have sparked discussions on government expenditure, with some questioning the overall cost of executive travel

However, the government has maintained that these allocations are necessary for diplomatic engagements and international cooperation.
